Some Facts To Know On World Environment Day 2022:

World Environment Day was established by the UN General Assembly in 1972. It is the anniversary of the Stockholm Conference held by the UN on the human environment. Each year, the day has a different theme and that theme is decided by voting around 1st March. Every year, World Environment Day is hosted by a different city. The day was originally created to inspire people all around the world to become active about the environment and take some steps to ensure the safe future of our planet.

1) Every year World Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June. This year the host Sweden is opting for the theme of ONLY ONE EARTH. The focus is on ‘living sustainably in harmony with nature’.

2) Over 150 countries are participating in this year’s World Environment Day event and the UN will engage governments, businesses, civil society, schools, celebrities, cities and communities to raise awareness and celebrate environmental action.

3) Sweden is trained to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045, is a frontrunner in greening its economy, and is rapidly adopting low-carbon and renewable infrastructure and technology.

4) Over 80 trillion aluminium cans are recycled every year.

5) According to reports, every year the population is growing to such an extent that by 2050, humankind will need 3 planets to sustain life.

6) The pollution is increasing every minute because around 27000 trees are cut down everyday because of growing demand for toilet paper.

7) Every country celebrates World Environment Day in its own way. Natural colors that depict nature like softer shades of green, blue or brown are mainly used in the promotional activities of the event for the world environment day.
